Outside of NYC, most if not all places lack adequate public transportation systems and walkable resources(grocery stores etc.)
Lots of cities have turned off parking minimums because of how bad it is, but it’s slow going.
Solid 80 years of malinvestment, it will take generations to undo the damage.
It’s truly abysmal
