OP reports loss of functionality. Functions, that are, quite frankly standard features on all not-IoT machines. Functionality which, frankly, you paid for, and which in no way actually require homecontrol to use.

There is no need to put it on the network, but if you want to, and are paranoid, you can connect it to an isolated network. If you dont want to, dont, and the dishwasher will work.

only if you find it acceptable to not have full functionality. “you can put it on an isolated network”… is very much like “let them eat cake.”

Particularly if you consider the trend to force this in all sorts of things- ranging from toasters, refridgerators, ovens, stovetops, coffee makers, etc. Inorder to adequately protect mimizie the risks associated with these devices, you’d have to have a dedicated network for each one.

and yes, the reason they’re forcing you to use the home control app to get these features is to intrude into your privacy.

Notifications aside, none of the functions it enables require internet access, or even network access. There’s exactly zero reason to put it on the network. And as for notifications, I don’t know anyone that’s going to rush home or stop what they’re doing to put dishes away the moment the machine is finished cleaning them. is it possible you’re an exception to that? sure. I guess. but the vast majority of people- in my experience- won’t be finding anything that actually requires internet for to be all that useful.

Which- in case there was any confusion- is why they shut off functions people use all the time. To force people to use their app. Which, if they weren’t some how making money off that app, ask yourself why they’d care?

They’re making money off the app. which suggests they’re selling something they get from the app. (I suppose they could be using your IoT devices to mine crypto when you’re not using it… but that’s got it’s own issues.)

Even if you assume there are no vulnerabilities to find, even if you assume their administrators are never evil, the only reason to require cloud service is to invade my privacy and collect data.

so your going to have to drop a source- dated to 2020- showing biden correcting that narrative. Especially when his campaign staffers "leaked’ him saying he would be a 1 term pres privately.

It’s not possible to ignore words that were never actually said, or a campaign that did everything to imply it short of stating it.

Because words have meaning and were understood to mean he would be a 1 term presidency.

The simple fact that he didn’t correct that assumption until the run up in 2024 shows he absolutely meant to imply that he would be.

Most people assumed that meant a 1 term presidency to buy time to develop talent.

It’s also not an opinion, that when people feel like you don’t actually act in their interests, they start voting for others.

Mainstream and centrist democrats do just enough to be less awful than republicans, but that’s not what we need as a country. Biden did just enough to return to the old (and only less awful) status quo.

I voted Harris, but damn was my nose aching from pinching it closed. At a certain point party leadership needs to pull their heads out their asses and realize the reason voters left is because they keep running to the right. You want more voters? Try running to the left.

Climate resilience. Universal healthcare. Tackle income inequality. Tackle the cause of education debt. Tackle the cause of gun violence and throw in solid, reasonable restrictions on guns. Tackle homelessness with proven strategies. Tackle drug addiction in ways that actually work. Open up immigration and tackle that crisis too.

Like, it ain’t rocket science. (Though we also need to fund that and keep all the patents here and not held exclusively by Chinese companies making bank off our research grants.)

I just checked. Victims are also entitled to speak to a public defender- or anyone interacting with the court or the justice system- including cops. (a private lawyer will be way more effective, PD’s are… stretched thin and overworked. yet another thing that needs to be changed.)

another option is to block unknown contacts from sending messages. IOS, the android/google messages and most messaging apps have a way to filter messages and just block anyone not in your contact list.
