  • I’m trying but the girlfriend refuses. She watches YouTube on the TV and does everything else on her phone; literally only uses the laptop to play The Sims 4 (which her 1080ti can handle just fine), yet she’s convinced that she will need a brand new gaming machine with a 4090/5090 as soon as Microsoft dumps WIn10. She’s afraid that she’ll completely break the OS if she switches to Linux. (Which is plausible, though unlikely.

I’m hoping she’ll change her mind as soon as she realizes just how much more GPUs cost these days, especially mobile ones.

  • I hate how pro right wing YouTube is. Half the time I make an anti-Trump comment, it gets censored. But plenty of pro-MAGA comments get through constantly.

I can tell that I’m getting censored because my comments simply won’t be there when I go back to the same video from a different account. But it’ll show up in my comment history with a “some comments might not be visible yet” disclaimer at the top. Sometimes if I keep reposting the comment it’ll eventually go through, but by then the video has stopped being promoted by the algorithm and so no one sees it. This only happens to me when I get political.

  • ESP, or Electronic Stability Program, uses the brakes to brake individual wheels and keep the car going in the intended direction, when it detects that the vehicle is sliding out of control. It is often paired with TCS—Traction Control System (usually controlled with the same button)—which cuts fuel to the engine when it detects wheel spin. Can’t lose traction when there’s no power going to the wheels.

In other words, it’s the fun button. Press it once when you want to have some fun (turns off TCS), press and hold it to have a lot of fun (turns off both TCS and ESP; professional drivers only).

  • Meh; pro drivers turn it off anyway, so it doesn’t interfere with your inputs and prevent you from Tokyo Drifting around corners.

I wish my traction+stability control button was next to my knee too, so I don’t have to keep reaching for the button every time I start my car.

(FWIW, I’m not a pro driver. I just turn it off because it’s a bit too aggressive in my 350Z. Even the tiniest bit of wheel spin cuts all power from the engine and doesn’t give it back for at least 5-10 seconds, which is especially annoying when you’re in the middle of a gear change.)

  • It’s €16 for 6 months of all the content you could ever care to stream, delivered straight to your living room. So yeah, about $2.75/mo USD for 1000x more content than any other streaming platform. Deal of the century.

I should also mention that the addon support for Stremio is huge, allowing you to customize your feed exactly how you like it. A good addon for example is Trakt.tv, which recommendeds content based on your viewing habits. Perfect for people who are too dependent on Netflix/Disney/Max/YouTube/etc. and their algorithms (me).

As the icing on the cake, Stremio also has HDR & Dolby Atmos support. Great for home theater geeks like me.
