The irony is that neither she nor her husband are even Christians. They larp as Christians for show. He enjoys being rich and she enjoys being a kept woman - this whole conservative Christian shtick is just right up their alley image wise.

Don’t ya just hate it when people make their harmful kink both their entire personality, and a problem for your fundamental rights? It feels weird to say it. But that’s basically what this performative Christian schtick is for people like this. They get off in it so now it’s all of our problem.

I have a friend whose sister was like this, but Eastern European. The man makes all the decisions and women are baby makers and dishwashers.

A couple years after the quick marriage she hates being married, him, but doesn’t want to leave because of her values so she’s incredibly depressed.

man that’s so sad. how far the amazonians who scared the romans shitless have fallen when even eastern european women are trad-wifin’ it. and what’s sad is that the way she gave up her dignity is she was convinced since birth by people who were convinced since birth that she had no dignity in the first place. it’s possible to cherish your children and to take joy in home tasks without treating it like its your only value

I’ve met these women. They aren’t stupid, per se. They don’t want to “think”. They just want to live their simple life, doing whatever their husband or kids want.

They don’t want to think about the world. Just their world.

But think about this for a second.

It’s the conservative mindset: “The world doesn’t affect ME so why should I care? I’m not being oppressed so everything is fine!”

It’s a situation where it’s a combination of “it works for me so this is how it should be for everyone” and “the world would be so much better if everyone acted this way”.

On the surface it makes sense.

But it’s almost passive aggressive oppression.

They don’t just want to choose not to think, because then they might have pangs of regret from making that choice. They want others to tell them that women aren’t allowed to think, so that it’s no longer their decision, and so it can’t be their fault if it’s a bad one.

        Can you blame them?

Living in an isolated idyllic little world where it’s just you and the people you love supporting each other sounds fucking DOPE.

Give me that solarpunk cottagecore life any day, every day, all day.

I’m aware that’s a fantasy, but if someone told me there was a sliver of a chance, the impulse control center of my brain would shut down for long enough to be dangerous.

They’re also brainwashed by the “Christian” patriarchal model. Which is literally “do what your husband tells you” and “don’t listen to outside opinions, just think and do what the church tells you.” The whole stupid thing is engineered to reinforce authoritarianism.

Oh my god, that’s what I want too. I would love to have a garden and a nice kitchen and just concentrate on my little world. I’m just not selfish enough to fully abandon everything that’s not in my little bubble.

The wanting isn’t the problem, doing it with no thought for anyone else is.

One of the negatives of mail on voting that people don’t want to acknowledge. (Because mail in voting good, and everything must be black and white.)

If he is filling out her mail-in ballot, then when she signs it, it should indicate that she’s voting with her own free will, under penalty of perjury and ballot fraud.

Later, if it’s determined that he coerced her into signing a ballot that he filled out, he can be charged with fraud, and she can be charged with perjury.

And then prosecute every single instance of it. The real problem in America is that too many people think that everything is legal unless they arrest you for it. It is the core philosophy of MAGA.

100%. This is the true “voter fraud” if there is any. Voting for parents, voting for significant others, voting for kids, but doing so on a mail in ballot and usually with their approval.

(I have to admit that I do this with my wife. She says “just fill it out and I’ll sign and turn it in”, so I do. But this could easily be done with coercion also.)

That’s a good point. I don’t think it makes a difference in this particular situation because she’ll vote as ordered. Having said that, there are people who would benefit from voting away from the watchful eyes of their partners.

Well until they actually repeal women’s suffrage this actually works in our favor weirdly enough. You’d think they’d be pushing their wives and daughters to vote, or to get to vote for them. How long til they propose family voting where they can “vote” for their kids.

You gotta love that she was convinced not to vote. You would think why waste an extra vote for your guy? Then I realized it’s because they will never fully believe a word she says, and instead of risking her voting for the other side, they feel more comfortable just having her silenced.

So she sounds very young and very naive… I don’t want to jump to conclusions or make too many assumptions. But it may be a blessing that she is self-aware that she isn’t politically proficient.

I don’t think she represents all, or even most, women, also.

I’m 33 and just taught my first real class at a university. The students are 19-21, and the first thought I had was that they were all babies. They’re not really, and they deserve all the rights that adults are entitled to, but they’re not dateable for me.

I get that as an instructor there’s another layer of responsibility between us, but they don’t even look fully grown to me
